Linc is a ISO 9001:2000 company

"I am delighted to share with you our recent accomplishment of being certified an ISO 9001:2000 company. At the recently concluded audit conducted by Q-Cert (accredited to RvA, Netherlands), we passed the muster of our practices complying to the more stringent requirements of ISO 9001:2000 Quality system than its earlier 1994 version.

Indeed, this is a major milestone for us in our endeavour to make a tangible and a quantifiable difference in our service to customers such as you.

In keeping with the new standards, we will be continually measuring, monitoring and enhancing customer satisfaction, both formally (through letters, meetings, customer satisfaction surveys and project performance feedback) and more importantly, through informal interactions. We will certainly need your kind cooperation in this regard.

And, as always, we thank you for your continued support and custom."

ERP or Best of Breed?
The decision to base your enterprise IT backbone on an ERP system or piece together a best-of-breed strategy has never been an easy decision in any industry. There are a number of possible package permutations in most industries. Whether ERP or best-of-breed is a better option is still hotly debated among retailers.
ERP provides:
  • Integrated and consistent processes throughout the value chain
  • Many of the processes are the culmination of industry best practice
  • Consistent data-model for the entire enterprise
  • Easier estimation of overall project cost through primary relationship

  • Best-of-breed provides:
  • Selection of functionally richest system for each business area
  • Resilience against single vendor failure or demise
  • Greater flexibility in terms of substitution of individual elements
  • Faster response from vendor to adaptation needs
  • More specialised vendors

    ERP: Payoffs and pitfalls
What is the ROI on an ERP implementation? Has it fulfilled its promises to users?

These are questions that befuddle many CIOs. Mark J. Cotteleer, a postdoctoral fellow at HBS, who explored the influence of ERP on a company's operational performance, says it pays if installed correctly. Now thats an open ended argument. This insightful article discusses the success and failures of ERP programs and how to avoid implementation pitfalls.

    A brief history of ERP

The focus of manufacturing systems in the 1960s was on Inventory control. Most of the software packages then (usually customized) were designed to handle inventory based on traditional inventory concepts.

In the 1970s the focus shifted to MRP (Material Requirement Planning) systems that translated the Master Schedule built for the end items into time-phased net requirements for the sub-assemblies, components and raw materials planning and procurement.

In the 1980s the concept of MRP-II (Manufacturing Resources Planning) evolved which was an extension of MRP to shop floor and Distribution management activities.

The Manufacturing Resources Planning suffered from a few drawbacks. Some were, its assumption that lead times are fixed and the capacity to be infinite, among others.

The shortcomings of MRPII and the need to integrate these new techniques, led to the development of a total integrated solution called Enterprise-wide Resource Planning (ERP).

ERP attempts to integrate the suppliers and customers with the manufacturing environment of the organisation.
